My practice demonstrates the relationship and translation between a landscape and a flat painted image. Working through paint in oil colour applied on board, initial ideas emerge from the photographic image and a history of place left in a landscape. The works are concerned with the process of making and traditions of layering paint that leave a history on the surface heightening the emphasis to the landscape it concerns.

The practice then develops to work with contours left on the image surface, highlighting abstractions and linear construction formed by the initial painting process. The work turns toward a very intuitive conversation, creating a relationship between surface and final overlaid paint.

There is an element of juxtaposition within the images, fluid, unconstrained paintwork compiles the surface in a contrast to carefully defined, almost geometric shapes that fit or overlap with the contours and distinctions on the paint surface.
